About us
Drawing from our experience in forming purpose driven business in Sri Lanka and Timor. Island Home began as a local project to draw attention to the plastic packaging used in take away food during a time when everyone was ordering meals into their homes during lockdown. Our Banana leaf wrapped meals were simply better for the consumer and the environment as they were 100% home compostable and full of organic Sri Lankan flavours.
Thankfully the plastic use debate in takeaway has improved since then with Victoria banning single use plastics in take away foods. However takehome meals still do fall outside this ban.
Alongside the waste issue, we also wanted to promote and use the beautiful produce the Victorian Farmers market sector enjoys and of course the stories of the lovely people behind this produce.
Since we began in 2021, We have been accredited as a VFMA producer, as we use produce from local farmers. We attend Farmer’s markets from Flinders to Castlemaine and enjoy bringing our wholesome food to the various communities that enjoy it.
In the past year, we have been providing our Sri Lankan village food experience at events held by schools, businesses and private functions.
We bring our good for the planet ethos to all we do and celebrate it with our customers.
On a side note ( but which is our main drive) we plant trees, restore ecosystems and support capacity-building programs for young ecologists in Sri Lanka as a means of giving back and offsetting our business impact and feeding a community that cares for nature.
